VOTER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Registration Deadline. 28 days prior to each election.

Note: The state of Illinois does not accept voter registration applications completed on xerox weight paper. Only applications that have been completed on specified heavy card stock are considered acceptable for processing.

Line 6: ID Number. Your Social Security number is requested for administrative purposes only. If you do not wish to provide your full Social Security number, the last four digits of the number are required for voter registration. The application will not be accepted without this number (Illinois Compiled Statues § 10 ILCS 5/4-8.03).

Line 7: Choice of Party. Party registration or preference is not required for voter registration. However, when you apply for a primary ballot, you must indicate your party preference for that election.

Line 8: Race or Ethnic Group. Leave blank.

Line 9: Signature. Signature is required. To register in Illinois you must:

1) be a citizen of the United States; 2) be a resident of Illinois and of your election precinct at least 30 days before the next election; 3) be at least 18 years old on or before the next election; 4) not be in jail for a felony conviction; 5) not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
