VOTER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
STATE OF
IOWA
Registration Deadline. Must be delivered by 5 p.m. 10 days before the election, if it is a state primary or general election; 11 days before all others. Registration forms which are postmarked 15 or more days before an election are considered on time even if received after the deadline.
Line 6: ID Number. Disclosure of your social security number is voluntary. It is requested by authority of Iowa Code Section 48A.11. If you provide your number, it will be used to help avoid multiple voter registration records for a single individual. The numbers may be publicly disclosed. If you do not provide your number, that fact will not affect your right to register to vote, or to vote.
Line 7: Choice of Party. You may, but do not have to, register with a party in advance if you want to take part in that party’s primary election. You may change or declare a party affiliation at the polls on primary election day.
Line 8: Race or Ethnic Group. Leave blank.
Line 9: Signature. To register in Iowa you must:
1) be a citizen of the United States; 2) be a resident of Iowa; 3) be at least 17-1/2 years old (you must be 18 to vote); 4) not have been convicted of a felony (or have had your rights restored); 5) not currently be judged "mentally incompetent" by a court; 6) not claim the right to vote in more than one place; 7) give up your right to vote in any other place.
